The Republican Donald Trump won the United States presidential election, defeating Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party candidate, who was a favorite in all public opinion polls and was considered as unbeatable by the bourgeois media, its international policy analysts, academics, and Chancelleries around the world. President Barack Obama is also defeated, despite his widespread charisma and created popularity. Republicans also won legislative elections in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The campaign was marked by aggressive rhetoric, scandals, personal accusations that exposed the viscera of a political system showed as “the greatest democracy in the world”, but which is in fact decadent and bankrupt, a plutocracy increasingly distant from democratic principles.

The elected president is a demagogue, right-wing populist, sexist, racist, anti-immigrant, xenophobic magnate with fascist traits. That indicates the increase of a right-wing trend, of the offensive against worker’s and people’s rights, a manifestation at the political sphere of the profound structural and systemic crisis of American society, an expression of the impasses of the capitalist-imperialist system and incurable lacerations of American society.

The deepening of the crisis in the United States implies the adoption of even more unpopular policies by the imperialist bourgeoisie and reveals the reactionary character of its institutions. It is false to say that the “anti-politics” or the denial of politics won. In fact, the winner was the rightist policy that exploits a widespread feeling of rejection of institutions. It is also an illusion to assume that Hillary represented a “progressive” side. She was the candidate of the establishment, of the convergence between the Democratic Party and sectors of the Republican.

From the mud in which Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are into nothing good can emerge for the peoples.

Hillary did not represent mere “continuity”, “stability” and “predictability,” an “easy-to-handle” situation for allies and opponents of the United States, as fan club analysts claim, predicting their “win over” would like. Her election would be, by itself, an escalation in imperialist policy it would be more, much more in terms of aggression against the peoples. Thinking about the idea of “restoring US leadership,” she said during the campaign that maintaining “security” and spreading “American values” would be her priorities. Military readiness and forging alliances would be her preferred methods, to pursue a “fearless” foreign policy. Even greater intervention in the Middle East region, reaffirmation of the alliance with the Israeli Zionist State and restraint of Russia and China were part of its foreign policy platform.

As for Trump, although focused on domestic policy issues, he made clear during the campaign his aggressive nature, his tendency to use force, and reaffirm the worst traits of imperialist foreign policy. The president-elect said in the campaign that he will give priority to restoring the strength, power, magnitude and primacy of US interests in the world, even if he has to sacrifice the interests of his closest allies. He promised to increase military power, enabling the country not to suffer threats from anyone, defended the unpredictability of US actions, modernization and use of nuclear weapons.

As for relations with China and Russia, he says he wants a “peaceful coexistence,” but has assured that will draw a line and respond harshly when someone overtakes it.

There is much uncertainty and new fears around the world about what will happen after the president-elect takes office in the White House. In essence, the broad outlines of America’s aggressiveness tend to hold. The American superpower is the largest agent to wars of aggression and militarism in the world. Its military expenditure exceeds 500 billion dollars; its more than eight hundred military bases are spread in all continents in more than a hundred countries. Its armed wing for Europe and the entire North Atlantic region, NATO, expands to the East and operates in the war campaigns of the Middle East and Central Asia.

US naval fleets sail the seas all over the world, exercising maritime power as a strategic conception for world domination. Its military commands, installed in strategic regions, continue fulfilling the role of pro-consulates and main agents of the US foreign policy, which is mix with the policies of Security and Defense.

At a time when disputes between the most reactionary circles of the dominant American classes, concentrated in the domains of the Democratic and Republican parties, are intensifying, the Brazilian Communists reiterate their commitment to the union of peoples, true democrats, progressive and anti-imperialists, in the struggle by national sovereignty, social progress, justice, international law and world peace.
